This week I gave a conference that I get to give several times a year to a significant number of people.
At the end of the evening there was time for questions and answers and a surprising question came up from one of the participants.
A young and aware woman who wanted to understand how she could have sex with her partner considering that she did not want to take birth control pills, which disrupt the hormonal balance, or condoms, which impair pleasure.
When I mentioned the fertility awareness method, she said that she did not know but understood that these things were not safe enough. When I asked if there were other women in the audience who did not know the “method”, more women raised their hands.
While I was creating the women’s health course with three female therapists, the best I know and each with over 20 years of experience, I learned many things, some of which I thought were obvious, but it turns out that many women still do not know this knowledge and their own bodies.
So to understand how to have sex safely and without getting pregnant, you need to have a deep understanding of the woman’s menstrual cycle.
The method refers to a life skill that a woman acquires by becoming familiar with her body and her menstrual cycle.
It is a process in which a woman learns how to observe, record and interpret the signs of fertility that the body transmits.
In a world where most of us have given up sovereignty over our health, every girl and every woman can and should learn how her body works.
This is material based on scientific knowledge and research, based on our biology, there are no hypotheses here.
The girl also said that her partner does not trust uncertain methods – and I thought to myself how much we have chosen not to know, that neither women nor men understand our basic biology. Let’s push a pill that we do not know the serious effect of, or wrap ourselves in rubber full of chemicals. The main thing – it is scientifically proven.
Despite what we are told, unlike condoms and pills as a way to prevent pregnancy – the only science that is true in this life comes from our biology and nature.
The method allows a woman To track her menstrual cycle and calculate precisely, month after month, the days when she can get pregnant and the days when she is “safe.”
The method is based on changes that occur in the body of every ovulating woman throughout her cycle, from menstruation to menstruation.
Tracking the changes in the body allows a woman to get to know her body in a much more intimate way than we were taught and also to gain control over her desire to conceive or prevent pregnancy.
So you could call it a method, but beyond all that, it is a basic introduction that connects the woman to her essence and her body. It is also intended for women who want to prevent pregnancy and are looking for an alternative that does not include hormonal intervention. It is equally relevant for women who want to get pregnant and save unnecessary medical intervention.
How does the method work?
The female cycle is basically a monthly hormonal mechanism that aims to help a woman get pregnant.
The menstrual cycle is divided into 4 weeks, 4 phases, or two main ones, the phase before ovulation and the phase after it. Each phase is influenced by several hormones, mainly estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Estrogen is responsible for the changes that occur in the first part of the cycle in preparation for ovulation, and progesterone is responsible for the changes that occur in the second part of the cycle – preparation for pregnancy/menstruation. In the middle, during ovulation, we have a peak of testosterone that is responsible for ovulation.
At the time of ovulation, a mature egg is released from the ovary and is ready for fertilization for only 10 to 24 hours.
This means that a woman can get pregnant on only one day of the month.
Rarely does a second ovulation occur within 24 hours of the first ovulation (this is how non-identical twins are created). A man’s sperm can survive in a woman’s body for only 3-5 days, and only during a woman’s fertile period, which also ranges from 3-5 days on average. Every woman is able to detect these days.
Did you know that the reason why pills are so effective in protecting against pregnancy is the cancellation of ovulation?
Cancellation of ovulation means the cancellation of the entire female hormonal mechanism. Every month, a woman’s body does everything it can to get pregnant, and if it is not conceived, to create a normal menstruation and completely cleanse the uterine lining. Every month again.
So if we canceled ovulation, what else did we cancel? The entire hormonal mechanism of a woman, estrogen, which we said is secreted in the first stage, at the end of menstruation, is a calming hormone, increases attention and giving ability, women feel better under its influence, more extroverted and more beautiful. Testosterone is responsible for libido, around ovulation of course, and progesterone helps with the phases of concentration and silence, before menstruation.
The entire month should and should be planned according to the biology of your smart body, when is it right for you to stand in front of an audience or make a presentation and when would you rather gather and be at home, everything is influenced by hormones and the menstrual cycle, so when we canceled them, we canceled the ability to give the body what it needs, the ability to work with my body according to its needs. And by the way, even understand who you are really attracted to.
It all lies in the biological magic that is a woman.
For these 6 days (inclusive) when there is a high chance of getting pregnant, is it worth taking pills for 30 days a month and completely canceling ovulation and with it the entire menstrual cycle?
Every woman can notice three signs that change throughout her cycle that will tell her what stage of the month she is in:
Blood temperature (body temperature first thing in the morning)
Natural discharge that changes according to the stage of the month (descending from the cervix to the vagina)
And changes in the height of the cervical opening
You can track the changes in these signs to accurately identify the stage you are in in your menstrual cycle and hence, when you can or cannot have unprotected sex.
This article is not a recommendation to experiment with the method, why? Because since we have moved so far away from who we are, it is necessary to take a workshop/course to better understand yourself and master the method in general.
In addition to the women’s health course that we created, there are quite a few practical courses for learning the fertility awareness method
