I have avoided writing about this topic for a long time.
Why? Maybe because I have been implanted with narratives that say that it is a privileged affair or that not everyone has the money to eat organic.
True, organic costs more, but at what expense?
I believe that the more nutritious we eat, the less money we will spend on nonsense that is not considered food (which costs a lot of money), we will be less sick and therefore spend fewer days a year on sick days, we will spend less money on medications, expensive treatments, visits to therapists and if on the way to health we also cook our own food then from that alone we will save a lot.
In other words, eating nutritious and organic food will be much cheaper if we give up all our unhealthy habits.
As someone who eats organic, which includes organic meat, sea fish, organic free-range eggs, organic fruit and the like, I spend a third of what my less healthy friends spend on eating out, snacks, alcohol, desserts and what not.
So maybe I just waited so long to convey my truth.
But while working in recent weeks on the revised version of the Gut Laws course, I remembered how important it is to know why eating organic and seasonal is and to also think about this when we choose what to eat every day.
For years, I have been talking about how most writers are full of 80% processed food and only 20% real food.
But over the years we see (mainly in the US) but recently also in Israel, that even the meager remnant of real foods is beginning to undergo manipulation by food corporations designed to extend the shelf life of natural foods.
Nature’s wisdom is not only expressed in nutrients, but also in the natural ripening process of food, the relevance of foods to their season, and their ability to adapt themselves to human needs according to the region in which they grow. It’s not just that certain fruits grow in the tropics, where people are constantly on the move and can afford or even benefit from natural sugars, and the fruits that will grow in upstate New York in February with 4 degrees outside and people indoors most of the day. What will they do with all the sugar? So they eat at most an apple or a blueberry.
Over the years, we’ve come to realize that you can easily find pineapple in the supermarket even during the Israeli winter – and this is just an example.
We see more and more fruits that have been sitting in the supermarket for days but look completely fresh, even though quite some time has passed since the picking, the truck, the flight, the refrigeration, the defrosting and the transport to the supermarket.
So first of all, if there is a sticker that shows that the vegetable or fruit was imported from another country, there is no reason to consume it.
Beyond all of the above, our vegetables are sprayed, these are not just gentle pesticides, it has already become a matter of toxins for everything, because as with everything, the cheaper and stronger the chemicals, the more profitable they are.
Pesticides accumulate in our bodies and cause diseases, allergies, serious problems and what not – of course it varies with the type of food, for that matter there is a fundamental difference between what we eat with the peel (and with the pesticide) and foods from which we peel the peel – like pumpkin, banana or pineapple.
One issue that has been discussed for some time in the US is a product founded by the most evil man in the world in my opinion, namely Bill Gates, who is known for his philanthropic partnerships with large pharmaceutical companies and the World Health Organization, which have long since lost their credibility. The same Bill Gates who recommended the Corona vaccine to the whole world and scared the world about the severity of the disease said, after earning more than a hundred million dollars on the vaccines, that the disease is not really serious.
The popular product that Gates invented and markets is called Apeel, a coating material for vegetables and fruits that can keep them aesthetically pleasing for two months on the shelf. They actually make vegetables and fruits that are supposed to look very diverse and imperfect, look irritating with the help of technologies and chemicals.
Have you ever thought it’s strange that all the apples in the supermarket look exactly the same? Where is it like that in nature?
This happens because no one wants to buy fruit with a defect, no wonder we are such perfectionists and hate everything that is not beautiful in this world. (Including ourselves).
The coating is a substance without color, taste or texture that cannot be removed from the food, no matter how much you try to wash and scrub, it is a coating that cannot be removed.
The company claims that these are natural ingredients that come from nature, according to their publications, and are based on a substance that comes from grape extract, if you don’t research it a little deeper, it sounds really cool.
The substance has also been defined as safe for use by the FDA and has been defined as GRAS,
Generally Recognized as Safe.
Isn’t that a disturbing definition?
This is a general definition by the FDA for substances that have already been classified as substances that are generally considered safe.
A closer look reveals that the main components of the substance are mono- and diglycerides, which are composed of glycerol or trans fat.
Since it is a known compound, it has received FDA approval as a safe substance, or GRAS for short.
The substance is created in the process of introducing oxygen into fat such as canola oil or other vegetable oils in order to solidify them at room temperature. These substances are used to extend the shelf life of food products, increase Flavors and preserving the appearance of food over time, they can be found in products such as bread, margarine, sweets such as chewing gum, meat substitutes and fast food. Triglycerides and their friends are known as substances that cause an increase in bad cholesterol and damage the heart, a truly fascinating and “healthy” experience.
In addition, glycerol is known as a substance that damages the gut microbiome. Think about eating fruit that has been coated with margarine. You buy an apple to eat healthy fruit and instead receive a portion of 1980s fur cake. Byproducts of the production process.
Don’t worry about Bill, just as he wasn’t vaccinated, he won’t eat the foods he markets.
In a conversation I had with a well-known health professional in Israel, he told me that the wealthy families in Israel, the ones who market the food to you, actually eat organic food that is grown for them. In other words – they are not stupid, they are simply businessmen.
So what do we do?
First, check that the foods you eat are grown in the country you live in.
If the apple is shiny, avoid it.
If the food is not organic, the skin is unnecessary, remove it.
And ideally, get rid of the junk food and all the junk you have in your pantry and move on.
