It all starts with diet – Stomach Rules – Cancer Nutrition Online
For years I suffered from digestion and my health. And as strange as it is to tell you this today, at the time I didn’t think that diet had an impact on my health.
Maybe it’s because I thought I had “tried everything.”
I read a few books, heard people’s opinions, “experimented” and didn’t see any results.
There were of course some foods that I knew were “bad for my stomach” to eat, but I had no idea how much changing my diet was all that was preventing me from feeling good, digesting properly, and healing myself.
I remember the first article I read by an American doctor who talked about inflammatory foods and their connection to an inflammatory state in the body. He talked about gluten, processed milk, and something else that I can’t remember anymore.
What I do remember is that I told myself that I was consuming these foods on a daily basis, and I had never heard before, certainly not from a doctor, about an inflammatory or anti-inflammatory diet, and at the same time I knew that my disease, ulcerative colitis, was a chronic inflammatory condition.
As I continued my research, I discovered that poor nutrition is linked to every disease and that any condition can be improved with the right dietary changes.
From that day on, I began to experiment with new ideas about nutrition.
Over time, I realized that everything I thought I knew about food was wrong.
Food industries have greatly influenced the narrative that is conveyed to all of us and we have become accustomed to the fact that ultra-processed foods are defined and even written on them that they are healthy. And then I also thought that probably means it is true. It is not.
What I can say for sure is that over the years and with the development of processed foods and false narratives, people are becoming more and more sick. And it is a fact.
70% of the population suffers from digestive problems. And after all, if you ask your friends, and I assume you probably don’t usually talk about it, you will find that most of you suffer, most of us keep it to ourselves and mostly prefer to turn a blind eye and deal with the symptoms and discomfort than change our diet.
Because where do you even start?
It is completely understandable, nutrition is a very personal thing, which we are used to, and the change of something comforting, familiar and comfortable shocks our system and we just want to forget about the idea.
I remember, as someone who used to eat 4 slices of bread (avocado toast) with an omelet, that giving up bread and gluten in general seemed crazy to me, and at first it really was strange, how do you get full? What do you eat instead? Over time, not only did everything become clear, but I started to feel much better – even after eating. The changes I made not only made me feel better, but they eliminated the fatigue after eating, the stomach pain, the inflammation, and my health improved tremendously quickly.
In our digestive system, we host the microbiome, the environment of bacteria (hundreds of millions) that are responsible for our immune system and also our mood (90 percent of serotonin is mediated in the gut). When these bacteria thrive, we are in complete health, when they weaken, or get out of balance, and less good bacteria take over, our health and our digestive system begin to deteriorate.
This is how a leaky gut is created, this is how most of our health problems are created, this is how inflammation, congestion, and weakening of the body begin.
There are quite a few things that harm our digestive system, starting from inflammatory foods, foods that are not suitable for us, the wrong combination of foods, unmanaged stress, ongoing emotional crisis, and so on.
There is no doubt that there is no one diet that suits everyone, because we are all completely different. It is enough that one person is allergic or does not react well to avocado, and you cannot immediately tell them that avocado is healthy for them.
I created Gut Laws, an online nutrition course, to help people understand how to heal their bodies through nutrition without being dependent on anyone else. This happens when we begin to understand the food we eat, the effects of food combinations and the signals our bodies give us and how to work with them for our benefit.
I know everyone loves easy solutions, some blood or stool test that will tell me what to eat, some therapist who will prescribe for me, give me a customized menu or an easy “method” that will make me lose weight and feel better.
But all of the above things, even if they work, leave the power in someone else’s hands, and after a while we will no longer know how to make changes, experiment and understand on our own what is right for me.
After all, the body is constantly changing.
What will you do in a year when you no longer respond well to what you eat today? What will you do when suddenly your digestion stops working properly again? When the season changes? You go through something emotional? How will you know what to do?
The idea of the course is to live in sovereignty, to make you an authority, an expert and an architect of your nutrition, body and health.
It is an empowering, teaching experience that comes from learning, experiences and a new adventure. There is nothing more fun that brings new energy to life than learning something new and doing something good and empowering just for yourself. Knowledge that will improve who you are for the better because you will know what is good and right for you.
A dietary change improved my health but it did not end there.
My self-esteem improved, my self-confidence increased and my life experience became more and more positive.
Understanding food, knowing how to use it, cook it, enjoy it without asceticism or inhibition but from a choice of abundance created a new person in me.
And I want it to happen to you too.
